Many times, true believe is a process.
We first start by following family traditions and trying to be nice good people.
This is because to our eyes, religion is simply a set of rules observed by nice people. Therefore, if I am religious, I am a nice person. Unfortunately, for many of us, this is not true. None religious makes me a good person. If anything, it could have the opposite effect.
Most of the time, a dramatic experience is necessary to bring us into the knowledge that we are incapable of being as nice as we believe we are.
Religion involves us into set of rules that if we conform to those rules, we may be called righteous. The problem with that, is that righteousness is not about following rules. It’s all about having a good heart. In other words, is having a natural inclination to do good regardless of what we receive back. If you analyze Jesus and his interaction with the pharisees, this was what he was meaning by being born again.
The path of righteousness is more like wake up, and know the true, stay alert, do not play fool. Believe in God and the only way to understand the will of God is by getting to know what Jesus really mean every time he spoke.
The study of the gospels and following them, is the key to the true and the everlasting life that Jesus speaks about.
